Goodwood Revival 2014

Each September, the Goodwood motor racing circuit takes a step back into its own golden age, from 1948 to 1966, when it was one of the country’s foremost racing venues. At the Goodwood Revival vintage cars and motorcycles speed around the track, and visitors are encouraged to look the part, too. If you don’t have a classic Mary Quant mini or full-skirted New Look gown lurking in your wardrobe, there are market stalls and pop-up shops where you can find the necessary gladrags – and salons where experts will set your hair and paint your nails.

This year's Goodwood Revival on September 12-14 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sir Jackie Stewart's "discovery" at the circuit with a trio of special parades to honour the three times Formula One world champion. Young Stewart was already making waves in sports car racing when he was spotted testing in early 1964 by the Goodwood track manager Robin Mackay, who helped to arrange a Formula 3 trial at the circuit with Ken Tyrrell's team. The rest, as they say, is history as Stewart and Tyrrell became pre-eminent in F1. The Cooper T72-BMC that Stewart drove during that Goodwood test is one of 24 cars that will form the tribute parade. His three F1 World Championship titles will be marked by a 1969 Matra MS80-Cosworth and a Tyrrell 006 of 1973 period.
